Since 2019, our capacity-building program has organized eight major seminars in Lomé, Ouagadougou, Porto-Novo, and Abidjan. By bringing together the perspectives of local and international trainers, we prepare media professionals for the challenges of today and tomorrow. Our holistic curricula cover the fundamentals of radio (studio techniques, FM broadcasting, journalism) as well as new challenges in the sector: fact-checking, artificial intelligence, filmed radio, MOJO, and television. To ensure the sustainability of these media, we also teach the ins and outs of financial management, fundraising, and marketing.
2026 - Ivory Coast
"Resilience and responsibility of Christian media in the fight against radicalism, and in promoting peace and strengthening social cohesion": as part of its decentralization efforts, FOMECAF brought together 57 professionals from 24 Christian media outlets across Côte d'Ivoire at CEFCA. In the face of regional security challenges, this seminar, led by seven national and international experts, equipped teams in the field and consolidated a resilient network. More than just a training session, this event strengthened the professionalism of Christian communication in West Africa.
2024 - Benin
The Beninese media seminar came to an end after three days of intense activity in Porto-Novo. The event brought together around 50 professionals to explore the opportunities offered by AI and other technological developments. The conferences and workshops organized by Médias Ébène in collaboration with FOMECAF addressed the practical uses of AI, content production, and optimized resource management, with an emphasis on ethical integration. The event strengthened the capabilities of the Beninese media for a new era combining tradition and innovation.
2023 - Burkina Faso
Around 70 people, including media directors and promoters, journalists, and media specialists, gathered in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The theme developed in February in Lomé was revisited in light of the violent events affecting the Sahel, which continues to suffer attacks from non-state armed groups. Both civilians and the military are being targeted. At the heart of the conflict are access to resources, territorial control, and even the quest for influence in the region. More than 40% of the territory has fallen under the control of terrorist groups who impose their own laws, restricting individual freedoms and spreading death and desolation. Insecurity is spreading like metastatic cancer, from the northern and eastern regions to the south and west of the country. The situation is urgent, as insecurity is affecting the entire Sahel, which has become the new epicenter of international jihad. There was massive participation from Burkinabés, supplemented by people from neighboring countries, including Niger, Mali, Togo, Benin, and Côte d'Ivoire. Two new speakers elaborated on the issue: filmmaker Luc Damiba and sociologist Jacob Yarassoula Yarabatitoua.
2023 - Lomé 5
Wars disrupt the economy and life in nations. Through his experience as an analyst, Illia DJADI has provided his peers with insights into the issue of conflict on the continent and the tools necessary for the media to become holistic instruments in the preservation of peace.
2021 - Lomé 4
Fifty people attended in person, but no fewer than 500 participated online in the fourth edition of these meetings on the theme of youth and African media. "We are seeing a generational divide in the French-speaking Christian world of Africa," explains Pastor Etienne Kiemdé, director of Radio Évangile Développement in Burkina Faso. An older generation no longer speaks the language, music, and means of communication of young people, 63% of whom are under the age of 24 in West Africa." This divide is also evident in society at large.
2020 - Lomé 3
We are in the midst of a health crisis and despite urgent calls for cancellation, we are persevering with this event in order not to lose any of the momentum built up in 2019. Fifty people (the health limit) are meeting in person in Lomé, while 300 people will follow the seminar online.
